Only thing that bothered me about this weekend's event...
...was that whole Sir Tybus (? the main guy standing in front of the locked gate) line, where you were told you'd better make sure you're all done with all things here before you proceed, because once you go you can't go back...
anyway, nowhere in there that i remember did it say anythign about having to play a stupid PvP session (2on2). Was i blind? did i miss it?
i HATE (read: despise with a passion) PvP, please give me a choice to skip that crap somehow, whoever i was grouped with ended up dropping seconds into the insatnce, and i quit teh game as well, then when i restarted i it put me past that area, right outside the gate grouped with some healer.
would it have been so hard to give me the option to "Skip PvP fight" and just go outside??
man i love this game, but rare moments like this make me wish i didn't prepay.
at least now i know i can drop the game and restart to bypass this crap if needed.
if you really hate PvP with a passion, perhaps this game may not be for you. i myself prefer PvE as well, but am open to PvP opportunities with guildies and such. it is something else altogether when your opponent is not your typical AI mob, for better or worse..

nah, i have enjoyed 98% of what i've experienced in the last half year or so of beta weekends, and all of it has been singleplayer (sometimes with henchmen) instances, the 2% i've hated was when i accidentally walked/entered into a PvP mission without knowing it.
and that's all i'm asking for really, please be more upfront about the fact that you're entering a PvP mission, and more importantly, give us the option to skip it.
not everyone playing this game is doing it for the PvP and if they plan on selling a lot of expansions (which i'm sure is their goal as its their only income source after the fact) hopefully they don't push away a lot of their initial customers by shoveling that aspect of the game down our throats without warning
i'm more interested in running around doing missions and exploring every square inch of the map, getting into the story/enjoying the eye candy, etc. i'm not interested in leveling as fast as i can just so i can sit in some arena and listen to a bunch of prepubescent kids (granted, not all pvp'ers are) talking their wanna be 1337 smack and lol'ing every other word

Looks like it was quite unpleasant for you.
I guess you don't like it when your prey has the potential to fight back .
Just to let you know, that PvP session lasts for a few minutes (not even 10) and just like the other PvP options in this game, you do not lose anything, no exp, no gold, no items. (Correct me if I am wrong.)
The pvp was fine, but I think they should balance that part a bit more. My friend and I went in against 4 other people, one of which was a monk. Needless to say, we got slaughtered despite being slightly higher leveled =/

Doesn't sound that horrible to me.
the mobs in the game fight back plenty enough for me
in any case, the PvP is just a waste of time for me, even if 10 minutes, that's 10 minutes i could be enjoying the game rather then being forced to partake in something i hate.
i would have no problems just entering the PvP mission and walking away from the computer 10 minutes while whoever runs around and has fun killing me over and over, but that wouldn't be fair to the 'teammates' that i was forced to group with.
perhaps i shoudln't have been COMPLETELY dimissive of my PvP experience, as i did play around with it for a while, some of the matches we were successfull in, and some we weren't, but in either case, i had the OPTION to partake or not.
my gripe was that there was no warning about the sir tidius (whatever) guy and the pvp that ensues after it, or option to skip it.
I think it is there to let people know that they can PvP and it's ok (no calling others PK! PK! etc).
Might sound weird to you, but not all gamers are aware of everything present in a game that they just bought.
I guess those who bought GW just to PvP have it worse than you though .

Now, if you weren't exaggerating by a factor of five or ten (does the part of the Academy where you spar with the other recruits last one minute or two, I don't remember -- I thought it was only a minute, either that or those two minutes go by awfully damn quick), I might have been concerned.
The fight with the grawl in the caves afterwards takes longer.
Not sure why you can't treat those two minutes the same as you'd treat a fight with any two random boss monsters.
You could always try negotiating with the other team.

The Academy is just that - an academy, a school, they have to teach you the basics before you can graduate - even if you don't like the subject At least you don't have to win to proceed.
Don't worry, this is the only time you have to PvP, and it lasts only a few minutes.
I sometimes enjoy pvp but what was upsetting for me was I was teamed with my girlfriend (who does not like pvp) and we both clicked on the Sir Tydus quest to enter the academy but we ended up on diferrent teams. She was playing a NeMo and I was a W/R. I ended up with another W/R and we did okay pvp. We lost but it was close and we got through the caves fairly easy. My girlfriend's team on the other hand quits on her and leaves her to do the caves alone. The cursing that came out of that woman's mouth made the searing look like a trip to Disney Land.

If you want to go into the Academy as a team, you have to be in a party when talking with Tydus.

Is being in a party diferrent than being in a team? Before clicking on Tydus we double checked to make sure we were joined as a team (both our names listed in window in lower right of screen) hoping to be teleported to the same place.

Hm, thene something else was wrong. The las time I went into the Academy, Tydus had two options for entering it, one was "I'm ready" (or something like that) and the other was "I and my party are ready" - you had to choose the second option to go in as a team, not sure if this is still so.
I didn't mind the small PvP session but I would have like some more preperation and warning about what was to come. Got by butt handed to me because I dind't know what was going on.
Location: Passed out on my Keyboard from lack of sleep from playing GW too much
Guild: The Harpers
Profession: R/Mo
I went through the acadame last BWE and did not see any PvP mission. I spend most of this BWE in Post-searing and did not take me pre-sear chars to post. So I must have missed the PvP was it only for this BWE ?? I hope it is part of of the game when it comes out. so I can do it.

Ok I think I know what happened. We both clicked on Tydus. I had 3 options and she had 2. As team leader I chose the option "I and my party are ready" She only had the option of I'm ready or I'm not ready and she chose I'm ready. I think this is what seperated us. How I ended up with someone else is a mystery. I guess stuff like this will be ironed out or included in the manual on how to share missions.
